What's happening next?

The Broadband East Riding programme is working to increase superfast broadband coverage across our region. East Riding of Yorkshire Council are in the process of planning Phase 3 of the Broadband East Riding rollout, for which contract award is currently expected in late 2019. This procurement is funded by efficiency savings from Phase 1 and grant funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), with the possibility of further increasing Phase 3 rollout by early utilization of programme take up funding. Phase 3 delivery timescales will be established during the contract award process at which point any additional coverage will be shown on our interactive map.

In order to identify exactly which properties have no superfast connection available, or planned to be installed, and should be eligible for investment, the Broadband East Riding programme has created a State Aid map to show the status of superfast broadband availability for each property in the East Riding.

The information displayed on this map was obtained from broadband network operators during an Open Market Review (OMR) held in 2017, a Public Consultation held in 2018 and via ongoing feedback from the public and network operators

The map uses a classification as defined within the EU State Aid legislation in relation to Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband. The classifications are:

  • NGA Black (More than one superfast provider)
  • NGA Grey (One superfast provider)
  • NGA White (No superfast providers)
  • NGA Under Review (Superfast provision under review)

Under the EU rules, East Riding of Yorkshire Council is only permitted to intervene with subsidised deployment in NGA White areas, where there is ‘market failure’, i.e. there is no superfast coverage available and no plans exist to deploy this within the next three years.

Members of the public are welcome to tell the Programme team if they believe the classification for their property is incorrect by using the online contact us form.
