How do I get Superfast Broadband? Read our handy guide

Here is our roundup of everything you need to know about superfast broadband, from what the Broadband East Riding programme is, how you can find out if your property has superfast available and how you can go about making the switch and getting the best deal for you.

What is Broadband East Riding?

Broadband East Riding is part of Broadband Delivery UK, the national ambition to connect 95% of premises to superfast broadband by December 2017.  Basic broadband can be slow and frustrating and many communities in the East Riding of Yorkshire have reported slow speeds. Broadband East Riding has so far connected more than 42,000 residents and businesses to superfast broadband speeds, with more on the way. 

Why do I need superfast broadband?

Superfast broadband offers the most reliable and fastest internet connection and has the power to transform how we work, how our children learn, how we spend our leisure time and how we engage with public services. Superfast broadband has the potential to deliver download and upload speeds that are lightning fast compared to traditional broadband. It’s not just about a faster experience or doing one thing quicker, it’s about everyone in the house being able to do their own thing online all at the same time. 

How do I know if my area has superfast broadband yet?

Find out if your property has superfast available at http://broadband.eastriding.gov.uk/: using the postcode checker. 

What do I need to do next? Superfast broadband isn’t automatic! 

Once live, you will need to contact your service provider to actively upgrade to a superfast package, it is not automatic.

There are various service providers offering faster broadband. You can use this link to view a list of suppliers in your area and complete a price comparison check to find the best deal. Not all providers will sell a superfast broadband package so you may need to change providers to access the new services. Comparing and switching doesn’t have to be time consuming and could save you money.

What if it is not yet available to me! 

You can see here the plans for Phase two of the programme which are now under way. Work in the proposed roll-out is expected to begin in summer 2016 running until December 2017.
