Tis the season for new devices, new games and festive reruns – so don’t let the buffer wheel ruin your holidays. This Christmas, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council is helping to deliver something that can’t fit in a sleigh with the Broadband East Riding programme.

Latest figures show more than 42,000 premises across the county now have access to superfast broadband, thanks to the endeavours of Broadband East Riding. Working with BT, the programme has helped to upgrade more than 200 cabinets with fibre optic and laid almost 300km of new fibre duct.

With Superfast Broadband you can enjoy downloading at the speed of Santa’s sleigh or watch the latest HD movie on Netflix without stopping for a buffer intermission. Whether dad got a new tablet, the kids are playing online games, or mum wants to upload those embarrassing photos of the family wearing gran’s hand knitted Christmas sweater to Facebook, with superfast broadband everyone can be online simultaneously, without a glitch. This is great news for everyone unwrapping smart gadgets this Christmas morning.

Businesses benefit from the improved speeds as well. Fibre broadband can give a more reliable connection, making working from home a viable option for many. With the threat of bad weather on the horizon, this will enable many businesses to continue running smoothly. Superfast broadband will put dependable conference calling, cloud storage and a multitude of online resources at your fingertips, helping to cut costs. Likewise, it can improve communication with your customers and helps to secure those extra sales.

Recent funding has set the snowball rolling to help connect a further 4,500 premises in rural areas by 2017. Our officers will be out in the community to answer your questions in the new year, so look out for events information on the East Riding Council Facebook Page.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all on the Broadband East Riding Team.
