Broadband East Riding Update – July 2013

User AvatarPosted by Jonathan Hall at 05/07/2013 11:05:09

The ‘Broadband East Riding’ project seeks to transform the broadband infrastructure in areas of the East Riding where investment is not already planned by the private sector. The project is part of the Government’s national broadband programme.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is leading a procurement process to secure a private sector supplier to co-fund and deliver the project. It will provide an upgraded wholesale network allowing new retail broadband services to be available for businesses and residents to purchase.

The project’s procurement is currently in progress, and it is now expected that a supplier will be appointed by September 2013, with the necessary engineering work commencing shortly afterwards.  The project is expected to take upwards of two years to complete.  Further detail regarding the phased roll-out will become available once the supplier has been appointed.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council would like to thank all of the residents and businesses who contributed to the recent ‘Broadband East Riding’ survey. The findings have provided useful information regarding existing broadband services in the East Riding which has helped to inform the project.

Further details and updates regarding the ‘Broadband East Riding’ project will be posted on this website.
